about

Creepship Lollipop was recorded over 8 months (the cold ones) in Sweden, Hungary, Ireland, England & Portland OR. Traveling with only a backpack, I found farms to work on in exchange for food & a bed. The music you'll hear was made in-between slaughtering pigs and chopping endless piles of logs.

I've never been any good at keeping a journal - this audio diary of my 'question-mark adventure' proves to be my best attempt at recording where I was and what I was doing: Vocals on one track remind me of the old Swedish prison I thought I was alone in, while treated piano on another recalls a dusty upright I discovered in an ancient barn. Feeling like a stranger everywhere I went, recording turned out to be how I connected to a place.

I primarily used an iPhone & Logic Pro, though you may hear the occasional electric bass & upright piano. Not satisfied, however, with how any of my sonic palette sounded on its own, I was compelled to scuzz up the sound of any and all instruments.

Though I frequently met new people and made some connections, a general pervasive loneliness surrounded me; this shaped my sound: dark, alienating, cold, filthy. Yet underneath all of this, I wanted compelling, catchy melodies to anchor it all. Because of this sometimes harsh scuzz, I decided to dub the recordings to tape cassette in order to take advantage of the natural compression inherent to tape after mastering, adding a touch of warmth to an icy experience.
